The Vision

Following the addition of a covered porch and two-sided fireplace, the homeowners wanted the landscape to extend naturally toward the lake. The goal was an inviting woodland retreat that connected the home’s new architecture with the mature setting already surrounding it.

The Design

A bluestone patio creates a transition between the driveway, home addition and lake, while steps carry the experience toward the water. Graphite outcroppings help navigate grade changes and give the construction a grounded character without competing with the property’s mature trees.

The Landscape

The planting builds on the existing woodland floor rather than replacing it. Native ferns, shrubs and layered garden beds soften the new hardscape while preserving mature trees and an existing Dogwood, allowing the finished landscape to feel established within its lakeside setting.

Plant Highlights: Existing Dogwood, native ferns and woodland shrubs.

We loved creating a lakeside retreat that feels as though it has always belonged here. Natural bluestone, layered woodland planting and the property’s mature trees come together to create an inviting space for gathering, relaxing and enjoying the lake.
