Create a garden that felt less like a conventional backyard and more like discovering a path through the woods. Native planting, quiet garden moments and stronger connections through the property would enhance the character already established by the mature forest.
A stone moon gate creates a memorable threshold into the garden, leading to creek-stone and washed-gravel pathways that move naturally through the property. Timber stairs navigate the steep hillside, connecting the woodland garden to a bridge and meadow beyond.
Rather than competing with the mature canopy, the planting builds on the site’s existing woodland character. Ferns, evergreens and flowering woodland shrubs create layers beneath established trees, adding texture and seasonal interest while remaining appropriate for the property’s deep shade.
Plant Highlights: Native ferns, Eastern White Pine, Serviceberry and Rhododendron maximum.
